Biographical statement

Having worked in secondary education for a number of years, I became an independent advisor and consultant in 2007. Although my specialism is the visual arts and creativity, I also work generically in the educational context. My work remit is very wide and I work across the UK and in the Channel Islands. I am a visiting lecturer on several M.A. Courses and on the Northumbria University PGCE Art and Design course. I am also an Associate of GL Education, Facilitator for Futurelab/Enquiring Schools programme, an Associate of the Big Draw/Campaign for Drawing, a long serving lecturer for Keynote Education, and a Consultant Leader of the National College for School Leadership. I have also been a visual arts consultant for Durham LA Educational Development Services. I co-ordinate and facilitate the very successful North East Art Teacher Educator Network. I have been involved in running art teacher educator networks in Rotherham and Sheffield. I work in close partnership with the schools and colleges programmer at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art as a consultant and as a network organiser. I also work closely with other galleries and museums. I consider it important to be active in the classroom and spend time each week in schools, with teachers and with young people. I also speak regularly at conferences and whole school training days. I act as secretary to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Art Craft and Design Education. I have been and am a member of national advisory/consultation groups. I have delivered keynote speeches at the NSEAD National Conference, the International Journal of Art and Design Conference, The National Gallery, Cape UK, the INSEA European Congress and the INSEA World Congress. I was co-facilitator of the very successful TEA (Thinking, Expression and Action) national Drawing Professional Development programme, which was a collaboration between NSEAD, the Campaign for Drawing and NADFAS. I regularly deliver training courses in Art Craft and Design in many geographical areas and testimonials can be seen online at this link: http://www.artcrimes.org.uk/testimonials/

I consider myself to be flexible and very creative in the way that I work with schools and I pride myself on high professional standards and a positive approach to all challenges. At all times I aim to inspire. I am currently president of the NSEAD  and an active member of boards and groups within the Society. I am a practising artist, with a particular interest in photography. I also work in schools as an artist and artist in residence. I love what I do in my work and career. Although it can be hard to keep CVs updated, I try to do this via my website www.artcrimes.org.uk , and I also use this online space to communicate my beliefs and my values as well as post news of my professional activities. Email me if you want to get in touch and we can work out ways of working together.
