New Secondary Curriculum
IDENTITY – A YR 7 CROSS CURRICULAR PROJECT
Coombeshead College is large 11-18 Comprehensive school with Media Arts Status in Newton Abbot, Devon. We wanted to launch the new
curriculum for Yr 7s with a new way of working not just for students but also staff and within the community. It was important for
us pull on our strengths in individual subject areas and share these in a more collaborative approach in the delivery of our curriculum
and create a more consistent approach to teaching and learning. Three large curriculum areas decided to dedicate the entire Autumn
term to working together -The Expressive Arts – Art, Photography, Music, Drama and Dance. Humanities – Geography, History, Citizenship,
Beliefs & Values, English and Media. With the basis of the project coming from exploring their personal, local, national and international
identities and using new media technologies as a vehicle for creating exciting outcomes the entire year group created a thought provoking
and challenging collection of work that included a large multi-media exhibition, performances, films, animation and extensive portfolios of work.
