Teachers’ Pay in England

The government has accepted the recommendation of the School Teachers’ Review Body whereby all teachers will receive a 2.3 percent pay rise for the next two years. Given that the current inflation figure is 1.1 percent this represents a rise in real terms. Starting salaries in Inner London will increase by 4 percent in 2009 and a further 3.8 percent in 2010. Those on the Excellent Teacher Scheme in Inner London will see a 24 percent increase with salaries rising to £46,866. Full details are available at www.teachernet.gov.uk
