Gove announces further changes to ITT

The Secretary of State addressed the National College for School Leadership annual conference 14 June 2012. In his speech he announced changes to Initial Teacher Training (ITT), which follow on from the ITT Implementation Plan Training our next generation of outstanding teachers, published in November.

The annoucements see a significant expansion of the School Direct Training Programme; the closure of the Graduate Teacher Programme, which will be replaced by the School Direct Programme; the further expansion of Teach First and the expansion of School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITTs) whereby more groups of schools become ITT providers. The Government will guarantee outstanding training providers allocations for two years at least at the current level.
