Resourcing and Assessing Art, Craft & Design: Critical Studies in Art at Key Stage 4

Binch, Norman and Robertson, Liz

Paperback, 130 pp, many b/w & colour illustrations, NSEAD (1994)

ISBN 0 904684 17 2

This publication is the outcome of an Arts Council and Crafts Council joint venture which sought to promote contemporary art, craft and design as a resource for art and design with an emphasis on studying 'the real thing' in a variety of contexts including cultural diversity. A further aim was to develop contacts between schools, gallery and museum educators and professional artists, craftspeople and designers. It is more than just another project report: the regional case studies provide valuable insights into ways in which the theoretical aspects of critical and contextual studies may be implemented in practice. The concluding discussion attempts to place the issues which arose in the course of the project in a contemporary context the projects are described in the words of the teachers, artists, craftspeople, gallery and museum educators and pupils who collaborated in the project.
