A Curriculum Enrichment Project for Primary Schools in Western Australia

Volume 8.1   1989

Following growing concern in Western Australia, Mount Lawley College was asked by the Education Department to develop suitable materials for the education of gifted children. Based on a similar project in Britain at Nene College in Northampton, suitably experienced primary practitioners were involved in the planning team. The problematic term 'gifted' was defined precisely within art education, and material content was selected and formatted carefully to ensure that they were targeted appropriately. Curriculum design was revealed as a complex interaction between theory and practice, student and teacher, designer and materials, and teachers were seen as integral to the success of the material.
