Learning To See

Volume 8.2   1989

'Learning to See', a project funded by the Royal Art Commission, researched aesthetic and design awareness, specifically related to critical and discriminatory skills and the felt response to place. The project links Art and Design with environmental concern, and whilst the results were submitted to the Secretary of State to inform national curriculum debate, there is no neat fit for the subject within traditional timetabled subjects. The research builds on the work of the 'Art and the Built Environment' project. A five point plan was developed to ascertain attitudes to learning about the environment, engaging in debate, documentation, teacher education and inter-professional collaboration in education.
