This paper advocates design as being crucial to successful business and therefore cannot be ignored by British industry. 'Design', it suggests, covers those creative aspects of business which conventional education (and therefore conventional managers) tend to ignore. The nation is losing its capacity to manufacture the hardware needed to maintain its civilization, and consequently part of its culture.
