Art Education in a Newly Industrialized Country

From a multicultural perspective the term 'art' can be problematic. Art education in Singapore has in the past been conditioned by a mixture of Chinese and Malay cultural influences that do not readily embrace Western notions of creativity. In the context of multicultural concerns in art education, this paper discusses how the discipline is evolving in this newly industrialized country, and the challenges it faces.
