Art and Religion in the Classroom: A Report on a Cross-Curricular Experiment

Volume 10.3   1991

The National Curriculum Council's declaration that the NC should be 'balanced and broadly-based' and that, accordingly, '.... a range of cross-curriculum issues is needed' prompted the development of the project described in this paper. It arose from the personal interests and shared concerns of two secondary school teachers: one a Christian RE specialist with a long-standing involvement in the visual arts; the other, an art educator who is also a Christian. The aim of the project was to follow the NCC's recommendations on developing cross-curricular links through exploring the implications for practice of recent theorizing about art and religion in the classroom.
