Developing Sculpture in a Comprehensive School from an Investigation of Unit Construction

Volume 1.1   1982

An investigation is described that was born of the need to introduce three-dimensional work into the art department. Unit structure is a method utilised by nature and man to build efficiently. The need for children to be introduced to study of the built environment is discussed and unit construction in nature and architecture is defined. A rationale is provided for the choice of sculpture as the principal practical element of the project carried out in a coeducational comprehensive school. A detailed description of the project and its evaluation follow.
