Boat Building Design and Construction Techniques in the Architectural Design Studio

Volume 1.1   1982

The paper is predicated on the belief that there is something about the design, construction and use of boats that may offer certain insights into the study of architecture. A description follows of a project involving students at the University of Oregon and the University of Liverpool School of Architecture where students were given design studio briefs dealing with boat design and construction. Finally some conclusions are drawn about the ways in which naval architecture has a potential to influence building architecture as profoundly as engineering subjects, the social sciences or the arts.
