A description is provided of the West Surrey College of Art and Design, which was formed in 1969 from the union of the former Farnham School of Art and Guildford School of Art. The College occupies a new building completed in 1979 and offers eleven subject specialisms approved by the CNAA at honours degree level. These range from painting, sculpture and print making in fine art, to audio visual studies degrees in photography, film & video and animation, and the strong craft degrees in woven textiles, printed textiles, ceramics, glass and metals. A College Diploma is awarded to students who complete the foundation studies course and art history and complementary studies programmes are an integral element of all courses.
