Art in the Primary School: Towards First Principles

Volume 1.2   1982

The author argues for greater recognition of the role of art in primary schools. He discusses the purpose of the visual arts in the primary sector and concludes that clearer ideas need to be articulated. In particular, consideration should be given to the visual aesthetic functions of art, the nature of individuality and to the balance between subjects in the primary curriculum.
