Art Education in Zimbabwe: A Review of the Present Position and Suggestions for Development

Lancaster bases his review on visit to Zimbabwe in 1981 as an examiner for the University of Zimbabwe. The British Council facilitated the visit. The author details the constraints that currently appear to adversely affect the development of art education and suggests that future development might be based on the locality of the schools and the art and crafts culture that are indigenous to Zimbabwe. The paper concludes with a set of detailed recommendations and a discussion of the aims of art education.
