NSAE Response to DES Proposals for 'Examinations 16-18'

The NSAE's response to Department for Education and Science proposals for a new examination structure for 16-18 year-olds is published in full. It was agreed that there was a need for a new examination that would assess a widely varying range of skills, a spectrum, as well as a core of learning experience. The response questions whether the published 'common core' is too narrow and specific. Nevertheless the proposals are seen as a way of extending educational opportunity for young people as well as providing a qualification meaning full to parents and employers.
