The Critical Curriculum

Volume 11.3   1992

David Hulks documents and evaluates a significant change in art education: the emergence and increasing prominence, at all levels, of 'critical studies'. Hulks sets out his view of critical studies as an operational method developed here for application in one comprehensive school art department. The programme is set within the recently published National Curriculum for Art and is explained in terms of its critical, contextual, cultural and historical components. It is described at once as a discrete area of study and an integral part of both a practical art curriculum and a wider educational agenda.
