Friedl Dicker: the Art Educator as Hero

Volume 7.3   1988

Al Hurwitz records the work of Friedl Dicker in the deathcamps and ghettos of the Third Reich. It is the story of someone who trained at the Bauhaus who subsequently used her discipline as a means of combating systematic degradation. The idea that art education could be restorative was not especially popular in the 1930s and '40s but now comes well within our compass of belief.
