In Search of a Curriculum Model for the Primary Schools

In this study, the author frames some principles for art teaching in the primary sector with the non-specialist teacher in mind and provides practical examples of how these principles might be applied in the classroom. The objectives of the study are:

  1. To review available material and to draw up a series of teaching units which could be used to construct a programme of study.
  2. To provide a range of supplementary references which non-specialist teachers might find useful.
  3. To introduce the teaching units as a school focused in-service education scheme with a pilot group of primary school teachers.
  4. To monitor and evaluate the work leading to modification of the materials produced.
