Teaching Visual Literacy with the aid of a Computer

Volume 11.2   1992

The paper proposes a framework for an interactive course in visual understanding, focusing on the nature and purposes of image-making and interpretation. The student is seen as both interpreter and critic of contemporary visual imagery, much of which is computer- or new media-based. Terry Genin's programme is comprehensively illustrated here, and is set in the immediate context of a contemporary debate about National Curriculum Art.
