Art Appreciation on Hungarian Television

Volume 5.1   1986

A shift in the approach of the Hungarian art curriculum in 1978 saw a move from a performance orientated to experience orientated curriculum. This new approach was accompanied by a series of tailor-made, didactic television programmes for both teachers and children, planned to facilitate their understanding of the new methodology. Through suggesting methods and techniques for specific age ranges, the programmes sought to broaden possibilities for self-expression and give children the opportunity, through exploring art, to question the validity of existing concepts – thus resisting conditioning and enabling them to see the world differently.
