An ‘Art Week’ in a Junior School

Volume 5.3   1986

Bringing the role of art, craft and design in the adult world into the child’s world is the focus of a project that offers a successful model for involving the whole school with arts practitioners from the local community. Through workshops – held both at school and in the community – children became involved in the artistic processes of local artists, craftspeople, student teachers, teacher educators and secondary school art teachers. The project, which culminated in an exhibition, captured the interest and curiosity of the children – highlighting the value and possibilities of making links between school and locality.
