Theory in the Education of the Fine Artist

I believe that theory in art education can, and often does at present, have a baneful influence on art practice. And in saying this I speak as theorist. In this brief paper I shall merely outline what I think are some considerations framing the question of the nature and place of theory in the education of the fine artist to explain why I make this claim.
