Status Quo? No! Women Moving from Marginalization to Mainstream in the Arts

Volume 18.3   1999

For this paper, the central question about 'why have there been no great women artists' is tackled. Nochlin's primary question will be answered, and subsequent issues she raises. Additional material includes a discussion of how the history of art has changed in the intervening twenty-eight years, moving from the white-male-dominated point of view, and commentary on the status of women in the arts today with special reference to collections and galleries that emphasize women artists.
