The Crafts Study Centre - Bath

Volume 2.3   1983

This paper provides a brief overview of the work of the Crafts Study Centre, which opened in 1977 in the Holburne Museum under the auspices of the University of Bath. The paper traces the historical development of this centre and its collection, which is strongest in work by artist/craftsmen working between the two World Wars who were developing the legacy left by the Arts and Crafts Movement. Recent and travelling exhibitions are described. One of the prime aims of the centre is to promote research of the crafts, using the centre's collection as a basis for study. The paper is illustrated with several black and white photographs of examples of exhibits from the collection.
