Sculpture: a Project to Develop Three-Dimensional Studies in the GCSE Curriculum at Henry Cavendish School, Derby

Volume 9.3   1990

In this paper Yvonne Scott demonstrates, among others, the principle that technology and art are interdependent. She records a project with 14 – 16 year olds introducing constructive sculpture where previously there had been a tradition of working chiefly in clay. In his editorial comments, David Thistlewood proposes, ‘there can be no better exemplar of Technology, yet it is quite impossible to find within the work of Yvonne Scott’s students any sort of gadgetry produced by countless of their peers in the name of satisfying spurious ‘needs’’.
