Art and Multicultural Education: the New Ethnicity in the UK

Volume 9.3   1990

Rachel Mason identifies a `single studies orientation' in which curricular units featuring discrete cultures of minority or ethnic groups are inserted into the regular routine. She notes also an `anti﷓racist orientation' intended to counter social inequality and minority oppression. But the approach that she herself defends most strongly is an `internationalist orientation’ that promotes an expansion of educational objectives to embrace the celebration of cultures in great variety.
