European Reflections: An International Photography Project

Volume 15.1   1996

European Reflections is a two year photographic initiative aimed at encouraging students from schools in Devon, Northern Ireland, Hungary, Holland and the Czech Republic to explore the notion of cultural identity through the medium of photography within a European context. The project has three main objectives. First, to widen the students' awareness of the similarities and differences which exist between the cultures of the participating countries. Secondly, to improve the students' knowledge and understanding of photographic practice and thereby the quality of the work they produce. Finally, to explore the place of photography in the formal curriculum, with a particular emphasis on the idea of visual literacy, and to consider a range of conceptual models which might strengthen pedagogic practice.
