Publications

Introduction

The Society publishes three periodicals and has both an on-line and travelling bookshop that can be booked for conferences and other events. We stock the most extensive range of publications specifically to serve the interests of art and design teachers, many of which are unavailable elsewhere in the United Kingdom. If you have any queries about books, subscriptions to periodicals or other matters please e-mail bookshop@nsead.org

START Magazine

START is an exciting and stimulating magazine for teachers of pre-school and primary art, craft and design first published in 2003. Published quarterly, START is full of ideas and resources intended to support classroom practice - no nursery or primary school teacher should be without it!

START subscribers have full access to this web site, including on-line access to the archive of back numbers of START, the International Journal of Art & Design Education and over two hundred Units of Work. Please note there is a lapse of two years before issues of START are archived on-line.

Occasional Papers

These pages list occasional papers produced by or of interest to NSEAD members. Recent subjects include ECM, design education and creativity.

Goodwill Art

It’s not difficult to download art images on-line, but reliable educational material to help teachers to put them in context is less easy to come by. Goodwill Art’s well-proven resource is a labour-saving, easy-to-use teaching folder containing postcards, background notes and classroom activities. There are teacher's packs on scores of subjects — many of them cross-curricular.

International Journal of Art & Design Education

Prior to 2000 known as the Journal of Art & Design Education, iJADE provides an international forum for the dissemination of ideas, practical developments, and research findings in art and design education. The Journal is a primary source for independently refereed articles about art and design education at all levels.

The Journal reflects and welcomes a wide range of theoretical and practical approaches especially those that debate the social and cultural values which inform art and design education, offer illustrated case studies, analyse and exemplify specific art, craft and design practices in all sectors of education, and that critically engage with the past, present and future of art and design education.
