Jo Alton

Secondary Creator

Joanne is a freelance secondary art creator for Oak National Academy and NSEAD. Originally trained in textiles design, she has taught a diverse range of art and design subjects in primary and secondary schools for over 20 years.

As a former Head of Art and Curriculum Lead, she has extensive experience in designing and implementing inclusive, dynamic art curriculums that empower students from all backgrounds to explore creativity and personal expression. Passionate about closing the gap for disadvantaged students, she has led initiatives to increase access to resources and support for underrepresented learners.

In addition, she serves as an examiner for multiple exam boards, bringing a deep understanding of assessment practices to inform teaching and curriculum development.

Having pursued an MA in Artist Teachers and Contemporary Practices from Goldsmiths University of London, she is committed to advocating for high-quality art education and continues to champion diversity, equity, and opportunity in the classroom and beyond.
