Biographical statement

Stephanie Cubbin is the experienced Head of Department at St Marylebone Teaching School, an outstanding department in an outstanding state school.

After several years as an Advanced Skills Teacher Stephanie gained Specialist Leader of Education status and has been working regularly to support Arts leadership.

Stephanie has supported many Heads of Department in developing their curriculum, improving results and supporting them in leading their teams. As an experienced GCSE and A level moderator Stephanie supports the moderation process alongside Heads of Department, developing understanding of standardisation and preparing for external moderation.

Stephanie is a member of the Expert Subject Advisory Group for the National Curriculum for Art & Design, attends the All Party Parliamentary Group for Art, Craft and Design Education and the NSEAD Forum. Stephanie has completed her MA in Art & Design in Education.

As a firm believer in the importance of the arts in schools, Stephanie worked with colleague Pete Thomas to create ‘A Window to the World”, an advocacy film about why educators should stop talking about ‘academic’ or ‘creative’ subjects and ensure that students are given the opportunity of engaging with rigorously taught arts subjects. The film was recently shown at the Tate Modern, as part of the ‘Art Is’ conference.

Establishing excellent working relationships with galleries and working together to provide alternative teaching experiences is important to Stephanie. She was heavily involved with the Edgware Road Project which resulted in two exciting exhibitions,
