I left School at 15 and having had a ‘troubled’ start to life which continued whilst doing a variety of both dead end and sometimes dangerous jobs. At 27 I had the opportunity to attend College to do Fashion Jewellery City and Guilds, this led to a degree at Sheffield Poly in 3D Design. Whilst working on a building site to support my family I was offered some teaching PT. The moment I started teaching it was like somebody switched on the light, I knew what I was here to do at last.
I then went on to get my PGCE. I have and always will be passionate about Art & Design and all the other creative subjects. It certainly changed my life as it has for many other people. I particularly liked working with the ‘switched off’ learners both boys and girls. It can be hard but very rewarding.
I developed and ran a large highly successful Art & Design Department in a rural school. We ran both vocational and academic subjects from KS3 to Post 16 and adults. I left in 2008 to work on a variety of projects including:
Regional Subject Advisor for the new curriculum 2007
Teacher TV rep 2008 -2010
Worked here and abroad running a range of creative courses for most of the leading training companies.
Chair of examiners for AQA double award Art & Design
Subject specialist tutor for Huddersfield University for FE students who were going through Teacher Training in Art & Design. This was both online and face to face.
However the majority of my work over the past few years has been school based, mainly advice and ongoing support and progress monitoring for: Teachers and departments from KS1/5 for Local Authorities and Academy Trusts regionally and nationally, this includes art and design, DT, music, drama and dance.
