Leeds Art Gallery
Friday 6th July 2018
The subject of Art and Design has been in decline in primary schools over recent years, leaving many teachers without the skills and knowledge to provide good quality learning experiences for children. Now OFSTED are once again inspecting all subjects, including Art and Design, it is becoming urgent that schools address this skills gap, to ensure their teachers and art subject-leaders are fully equipped to provide an excellent art curriculum, as well as being able to create a vibrant and creative learning environment for children.
This course will give you the foundations for developing confidence, enthusiasm and knowledge in this subject. It will help you to understand the wider benefits of providing breadth and balance for all children, and will enable you to enhance and enliven your teaching strategies right across the curriculum. It will support you by offering both practical experience based upon theoretical foundations, and will help you to develop creative confidence in providing children with opportunities for experimenting and exploring with art materials.
Based upon the 2017 publication, Teaching Primary Art and Design, the course will be run by its author, Susan Ogier. Susan, has over 20 years of experience in providing training in Primary Art and Design for teachers, and working with teaching students. She is able to turn the most nervous and unconvinced teacher into a committed art enthusiast within the first hour!
