Begin with a brainstorming session that focuses upon the English alphabet. Talk about how the alphabet can be written in two different 'cases' of text. First look at the upper case style, which is another name for text that has been recorded using ' capital ' letters - for example 'A', 'B' etc. Then discuss how the lower case style is another name for text that has been recorded using ' small' letters - 'c', 'd' etc. Provide some different examples of fonts for the children to look at. Print out some large point sizes of different letters from a computer. Pick contrasting fonts. Can the children point out the differences?
