Dr Abbie Cairns is an artist-teacher-researcher specialising in Adult Community Learning (ACL) and Initial Teacher Education. She identifies as both an artist and a teacher, actively engaging in both practices.
Her research focuses on the dual and multifaceted professional identities of FE teachers, developing tools to help educators navigate and balance these roles. Her first book, Exploring your Further Education Teacher Identity, explores these themes.
Abbie is a text-based artist who exhibits her work regularly. She also facilitates SPACE: Peer-to-Peer programme for SPACE, where she supports emerging artists in their professional development.
