Dr Miranda Matthews is an artist educator and researcher. She has worked at Goldsmiths, University of London since 2016. Prior to that Miranda worked in schools and colleges, and practiced as an artist.
Miranda is Head of Centre for Arts and Learning at Goldsmiths. She curates thematic research programmes that include artists, curators, researchers and postgraduate students. Themes include Discomfort Zones (2019-2020), Affective Digital Presence (2021-22), Ecologies in Practice (2022-present), All for the Arts (2023-24), Arts Economies (2024-25) and Stories of Change (2025-26). Miranda collaborates in UK and international practice research partnerships, and Co-Chairs Goldsmiths Practice Research Group (2023-present).
Miranda has a range of written and practice outputs. Her book Arts Methods for the Self-Representation of Undergraduate Students: Sensory Transitions into University Cultures (2023) explores how arts practice helps to assist agency, confidence and belonging for underrepresented groups in university cultures. Miranda’s forthcoming edited book is Ecologies in Practice and Learning: Arts Interventions in the Earth Crisis (Palgrave Macmillan, 2025).
