Who is this course for?
All recently qualified Primary early career teachers (ECTs)and non-specialists who need to gain more confidence in teaching art and design.
About this course
This course will support participants by offering practical experiences, based upon pedagogical principles, and will help to develop creative confidence in providing children with opportunities for experimenting and exploring with art materials.
The aim of this course is to develop creative confidence in the delegates attending, enabling them to view the subject of Art & Design as a precious jewel in the curriculum.
Learning outcomes:
- A deeper understanding of each area of the art curriculum.
- Greater creative confidence in providing children with opportunities for experimenting and exploring with art materials.
- A bank of relevant artists with which to inspire children for each area.

Session 1 - Make a Mark! - Drawing focus
- Thinking about the art discipline of drawing, what does it look like in primary school? What is meant by progress in this area? Partake in a variety of drawing activities and discover relevant artists to inspire children back in the classroom.
Session 2 - Drip and Splatter - Painting focus
- Thinking about the art discipline of painting, what does it look like in primary school? What is meant by progress in this area? Partake in a variety of painting activities and discover relevant artists to inspire children back in the classroom.
Session 3 - It’s not just clay! - Sculpture focus
- Think about the art discipline of sculpture, what does it look like in school? What is meant by progress in this area? Partake in a variety of sculptural activities and discover relevant artists to inspire children back in the classroom.
Attendees will learn through presentations delivered by Adele, group discussions and practical making.
