BTEC results 2013-14 show art and design numbers falling

BTEC results published by Pearson in 2014 represent achievement for students in UK Schools and FE Colleges for the 2013/14 full academic year (from September 2013 to August 2014). The results show achievement of students by subject, region and gender. A fall in both art and design BTEC Firsts and Nationals has been identified in the results.

A comparison by subject (sector) for BTEC Firsts indicate that between 2013-14 there was a 27% decrease in the completion of art and design BTEC (a decrease of 9,272), the biggest percentage fall in any BTEC subject.

For BTEC Nationals there was a 4% decrease in art and design completion rates (a decrease of 1,219). This contrasts with the majority of other subject sectors, most of whom saw a rise in numbers completing BTEC*

*Public Services, Early Years, Hair and Beauty and Transport Logistics were the only other subjects to show a fall in numbers. All other subjects saw an increase.
