GE17

On Friday 9 June 2017 we woke up to a hung parliament, with at the time of writing, no clear indication of who will be returning or being invited into key cabinet positions.

As soon as Secretaries and Ministers of State for Education and Culture are in place, and their Shadows, the Society will be contacting them to continue to share our concerns and influence decision making.

Many congratulations to Sharon Hodgson, Labour MP for Washington and Sunderland West for soundly retaining her seat and for inviting NSEAD patron and election artist Cornelia Parker RA OBE to witness her count. We look forward to Sharon’s continued support of our All Party Parliamentary Group for Art, Craft and Design Education from September onwards.

Thank you to all our members who took the NSEAD Survey Report 2015-16 and the NSEAD Manifesto for Art, Craft and Design Education and used them to challenge local MPs and parliamentary candidates. You will have made a difference. Thank you to all our members who spent time encouraging their young people to register to vote. You, and they will have made a difference.

Governments and elections come and go. We can depend on nothing but change. The Society, however, is active today as it has been for the last 129 years; advocating, challenging and celebrating art, craft and design education and its teachers and educators.

Thank you as ever for your support. We will be adjusting our policy work accordingly, listening to you, and keeping you informed.
