A new briefing published by the Cultural Learning Alliance and Nesta sets out the need to shift the policy focus on STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) by adding the A of arts – turning STEM into STEAM.
Hasan Bakhshi, Executive Director, Creative Economy and Data Analytics at Nesta says: 'For the UK to grow and exploit new economic opportunities we need our young people to be prepared for the changing needs of the labour market.'
Drawing on research and evidence, the expertise of key industry experts, the paper calls for government to 'focus on mechanisms that promote the fusion of arts, sciences and technology right through the talent pipeline'.
