What is craft

Craft is an inclusive, democratic subject area, allowing engagement at all levels of ability. It represents creative process, progress and practice, and with its understanding of materials, systems and human needs, plays not only an important role in education, but in its contribution to the economy, culture and society, and in the creative use and enjoyment of leisure.

Why study craft

By studying craft based making skills, through practical application, young people will develop transferable skills that will enable them to create practical solutions to problem solving, develop visual awareness, and work individually and in teams. They will appreciate the relationship of craft to issues such as social inclusion, cultural diversity and the environmental, understand the relevance of craft to the economy and the creative industries and have a starting point for leisure pursuits that they might engage in for the rest of their lives.
