Join NSEAD Council and take an active part in influencing the work of your Society.
We have vacancies for members wishing to serve on Council for the period January 2023- December 2025
There are three vacancies as we thank outgoing Council members for their service: Paul Brennan (North), Juliet Alcarez (South), Andy Ash (London, Home Counties),
Council is responsible for the governance of the Society. Council members oversee our strategic thinking as a subject association, a trade union and a learned society, guided by our Strategic Plan 2020-24, our Communications Strategy and our Policy Watch document. Council also oversees the finances of the Society, supported by the Honorary Treasurer.
Call for Nominations for members of Council and Vice President
Council meets in full three times a year on a Saturday morning, generally via video conference, although we aim to meet in person for at least one of those meetings.
As well as these governance meetings, Council members attend our Annual General Meeting in the summer, and may join working groups and sub-committees that meet informally at other times.
Every Council member is invited to be involved with our Research Groups, which drive policy and deliver real change for art, craft and design education.
Serve on our General Purposes Committee
We are also seeking nominations for Vice-President, a three year term of office from January 2023. Individuals nominated to serve as President of the Society normally will be serving members of Council or will have completed a term as a member of Council.

How to get involved
Anyone who is an individual member – Full Trade Union, Associate or Honorary – can be nominated for Council, with elections in September each year. Council members can also be elected to our Finance & General Purposes Committee and may initiate or join a time-limited Research Group.
You don’t have to be a teacher, and you don’t need years of experience, just a strong commitment to our subject and the desire to work with others, to make a difference and advance art, craft and design in education.
Diversity is an important value for NSEAD. We are passionate about promoting equity at work and are committed to it for all our volunteers and staff. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates who are underrepresented in art, craft and design education and in the creative industries.
