Transitional spaces, phases and practice: from early years and beyond
A career in art and design education means supporting and nurturing transitions hourly, daily, termly and yearly. We see transitions across subjects, phases, schools, colleges, communities and countries – and in the identities, practices and experiences of learners and colleagues.
The guest editors of AD No.47, primary initial teacher educators Teresa Smith and Kaytie Holdstock, bring experience of working across subjects, years and schools. Together, they ask:
- What do transitions in art, craft and design curricula look and feel like? Across and between phases, how can these transitions challenge and advance art and design education?
- How does art, craft and design education help us embrace discomfort and uncertainty?
- How do professional transitions – such as changing roles and workplaces – inform and impact artist and/or art educator identity and practice?
