National Portrait Gallery - Schools hub

Bookings for the National Portrait Gallery’s 2026-27 schools programme are now open!

Get ready for a fascinating new academic year packed with creativity, inspiration and unforgettable learning experiences. The FREE 2026-27 schools programme at the National Portrait Gallery is now open for booking on Schools hub and we’re excited to share what’s coming next.

Alongside our much-loved in-Gallery learning sessions for Key Stages 1-5, we are delighted to announce that we have introduced two brand-new FREE sessions especially for Early Years groups. People in portraits and Portrait makers invite Nursery and Reception children to explore portraits through playful discovery, imagination and hands-on creativity. These engaging sessions encourage curiosity, conversation and self-expression while supporting early learning and development.

We are also launching an exciting programme of online events that will livestream artists and creatives into your school. In our Meet the artist online events, students will meet a practising artist, explore their creative methods and career journey, and try out portrait-making activities. In our new Teacher CPD online events, you will learn how to analyse portraits and incorporate portraiture into your Art teaching, discovering a diverse range of works from the NPG Collection.

Whether you are looking to enrich classroom learning, inspire young imaginations or provide meaningful cultural experiences for your students, the NPG Schools programme offers something for everyone. Be the first to hear about session dates, booking information and new resources by signing up to our NPG Schools newsletter.

Visit Schools hub and discover all our free resources, videos and events.
