Definitions & Terminology

The following entries on this page represent definitions and terminology around some of the key terms featured within the checklists.

Critical Consciousness?

Research has suggested that critical consciousness — ones ability to recognise and analyse systems of inequality and the commitment to take action against these systems — can be a gateway to academic motivation and achievement for marginalised students. Put simply, marginalised students can achieve at higher levels when schools teach them how to see, name, and challenge racial oppression - Aaliyah El-Amin et al. (2017)

We recognise that the additional terminology definitions will boost engagement with the resources. Where possible, we have included definitions on the pages where the terminology occurs.

Please see below several posts which the key terms have been taken from.
