The difficult problem of introducing figure drawing to preteen pupils is tackled in this unit. Concentrating on shape rather than form, various strategies are suggested to help children represent the human figure. Seeing the figure drawing of a range of artists in relation to the children's own drawings is advocated as a means of helping children to understand the process.
