This project involves 'recycling' your classroom with reclaimed everyday materials. Decide on a theme with the children that could involve the total redesign of your classroom, or at the very least, a book corner or play area. This could form part of a topic or a story, or link to a whole class design and technology project, perhaps about designing and making a fantasy environment. For example, design a rainforest, a strange planet, a cave or an aquarium. Suggest to the children that the project will turn their classroom into an environment of their own choosing for a short period of time. This will be an exciting venture and stimulate learning across the curriculum. There are a number of arteducation.co.uk projects that could help you with suggestions about how to support the children as they research visual information for their designs. For example, look at 'drawing imaginative buildings' which could support a fantasy architectural environment. Or try 'jungles, drawing and imagination' which would link to a rainforest theme.
